LocalHost and Videonor fund Måløy Academy to educate future IT experts
LocalHost and Videonor have built a state of the art training complex where they can connect with the most talented students from an early age through Måløy Academy.
Måløy Academy is an apprenticeship program that aims to bring practical IT knowledge and on-the-job training to young talent. LocalHost and Videonor have invested $100,000 to build a modern classroom facility, however the biggest investment has been in the hours spent to train the students. Both companies, as well as Norwegian datacenter Lefdal Mine, are certified to teach programs that certify students in their education through apprenticeship.
“This is an arena where we can begin to develop talent early. Our plan is to find and motivate the best IT candidates at the youth school level”, says CEO of LocalHost, Sindre Kvalheim.
“Investing in Måløy Academy and its’ students is a great investment for our companies. We can finely tune the education they receive and help them to reach the high skill level that the jobs require” says Kvalheim. The gain for LocalHost, Videonor, and Lefdal Mine is having competent workers who contribute to their businesses through apprenticeship and as future employees.
There will be six students in the new LocalHost office for the current school year. The students are from YSK / TAF in Vågsøy and from data electronics at Eid. The students study here until instructors feel they are ready to step on to the job for further study.
“Students are trained in what we need them to know. We cannot let them go through a school plan that is not relevant or outdated. Here they are working with top of the line servers and services, so we make sure that they have a certain relevant competency, so they are immediately ready to begin a full-time position”, says Øyvind Reed, CEO at Videonor.
Another benefit to the students is not just the 60+ expert teachers through LocalHost, Videonor, and Lefdal Mine, but they are also exposed to the companies’ vast network of professionals for master classes and workshops. This network reaches contacts from Rittal and IBM to NTNU and Høgskolen in Western Norway.
Tech companies LocalHost, Videonor, Lefdal Mine, are headquartered in Måløy, Norway kicked off the 2017-2018 school year with Måløy Academy on September 1st.
